Hadrian’s Wall Military Road Loop
Use Hexham as the base for a circuit beside Hadrian’s Wall. Join the B6318 Military Road at Chollerford, follow the open country towards the Greenhead area, then return through Haltwhistle and the Tyne corridor. The loop turns onto the return roads at their junctions, without an out-and-back drive into Greenhead village. Forts and wall walks are separate optional visits.

Highlights along the way
Military Road landscape
The B6318 runs beside parts of the Hadrian’s Wall corridor. Enjoy the open-country road, with wall walks treated as separate stops.
Walltown area
Near Greenhead, the Walltown landscape offers an optional walk among the crags. Use official visitor parking and check the current access guidance.
Before you set off
Roadside visibility of the Wall varies. Do not stop on fast road sections or assume a verge is parking. Forts and walking viewpoints require separate signed access, parking and time; check admission and opening information before planning visits. The map points mark through-road junctions, not parking places. Optional town visits may require a separate detour.
