The thinking behind the drive

How Remapped chooses its routes

Roads worth taking.
Thoughtfully joined together.

From a quick escape to a full day on the road, we look for journeys you will enjoy making.

The journey is the point.
What makes the cut

More than a line on a map.

The roads matter. So does the way they come together.

01

Roads worth taking

We look for roads that make the journey worthwhile: changing landscapes, bends, coastal views, mountain passes and quieter stretches with a distinctive character. The fastest connection between two places is not always the most enjoyable drive.

02

A journey that works as a whole

A good route is more than a list of famous roads. We consider how the stretches connect, aiming for a coherent journey with less unnecessary backtracking and fewer awkward detours. By “flowing”, we mean a drive that fits together naturally at an appropriate pace—not an invitation to drive faster.

03

Less unnecessary driving through built-up areas

Where practical, we favour enjoyable roads between towns and villages and minimise unnecessary driving through built-up areas. Some settlements are unavoidable, provide the best connection or are worthwhile destinations in their own right. We do not promise a traffic-free route or one that avoids every village.

04

Different drives for different days

We choose a mix of short escapes, circular routes, coastal roads, mountain passes and longer road trips. A drive does not have to be demanding to be worth taking. Route maps, estimated times and notes help you decide what suits your day.

Make time for the stops

Stops that add to the journey

Viewpoints, attractions and places to explore can make a drive more memorable. Optional visits may involve leaving the mapped driving route, finding suitable parking or allowing extra time. Route points are driving references; they are not a guarantee of parking or a suitable stopping place.

Behind the approval

Chosen with care.
Explained clearly.

What Remapped approval means, how we check photo locations and what to know before setting off.

What Remapped approved means

A route selected and approved by Remapped. We use a combination of driving routes ourselves, scouting locations, prior knowledge and detailed research. The mix varies by route: approval does not mean every road has been personally driven.

Photos and location checks

Road-image locations are confirmed using GPS data. This confirms the location of the road shown; it does not establish today’s road conditions or mean that every photograph is recent.

Practical information, with clear limits

We include known considerations such as narrow sections, gradients and exposed stretches where relevant. Driving estimates exclude stops and live traffic. Roads, restrictions and conditions can change, so check current information before setting off.
