Wrynose and Hardknott Crossing

Cross from the Langdale side of the fells through Wrynose and Hardknott towards Eskdale. This is a slow, demanding pass crossing rather than a fast touring road, with tight bends and pronounced gradients.

Highlights along the way

Wrynose and Hardknott

Two steep, narrow pass roads connect the Langdale and Eskdale sides of the fells. The road itself is the experience; this is a demanding crossing.

Before you set off

Very steep, narrow single-track roads may be unsuitable for many vehicles and drivers. Check restrictions, weather and your vehicle guidance; choose a different route if uncertain. Check current closures and conditions before travel. Estimated time excludes stops and live traffic. Points are through-road references, not parking. Optional town visits may require a separate detour.
