Coastal moorland

The road between the Whitby and Scarborough sides combines high coastal country with more enclosed approaches near settlements.

North York Moors crossing

The inland A169 section crosses open upland country between Pickering and the coast.

Before you set off

Allow breaks and time for seasonal traffic. Robin Hood’s Bay is an optional separate visit; the loop does not descend into its steep village streets. Check current closures and conditions before travel. Estimated time excludes stops and live traffic. Points are through-road references, not parking. Optional town visits may require a separate detour.
