South Shropshire Hills and Heritage Loop

Set aside a longer outing for a broad circuit of southern Shropshire. From Ludlow, cross towards Cleobury Mortimer, continue through Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock, then return by Church Stretton and Craven Arms. The route combines the Clee Hills corridor, market-town approaches and the B4371 beside Wenlock Edge. Choose a small number of stops rather than trying to visit every town in one sitting.

Highlights along the way

Clee Hills road corridor

The Ludlow–Cleobury Mortimer section passes through the wider Clee Hills landscape. Enjoy it from the public road; summit access and walks are separate outings.

Wenlock Edge

The Much Wenlock–Church Stretton section follows the B4371 beside the wooded limestone escarpment. Any woodland walk needs a separate lawful parking stop.

Stokesay Castle

Near Craven Arms, Stokesay Castle offers an optional heritage visit. Check opening arrangements and admission, and plan the signed visitor access separately from this road route.

Before you set off

This is a longer circuit with a mix of A-roads, B-roads and town streets. Allow breaks and extra time for traffic or visits. The Clee Hills stretch uses roads through the wider hill landscape, not a drive to the summit. Stokesay Castle is an optional separate visitor detour, not an included car-park stop. Driving times exclude stops and live traffic. The named route points are road reference points, not approved parking places. Arrange lawful parking for visits, keep junctions and passing places clear, and check current closures and restrictions before travelling. Road alignment, access and stopping places remain unverified until editorial review.
