Cat and Fiddle Moorland Circuit

Head from the eastern outskirts of Macclesfield onto the exposed Cat and Fiddle road, then turn onto the A53 towards Leek at the road junction west of Buxton. Return to Macclesfield for a varied Peak District circuit. The loop stays on the through roads rather than adding a town-centre detour into Buxton.

Cat and Fiddle uplands

The high road above Macclesfield crosses open Peak District moorland. Choose a lawful stopping place separately if you want to take in the panorama.

Before you set off

This is a demanding public road with blind bends and exposed stretches. Follow posted speed limits and enforcement signs, and allow space for cyclists and motorcycles. Check weather and current closures before using the high section; attraction or café opening is not assumed. The map points mark through-road junctions, not parking places. Optional town visits may require a separate detour.
