Snake Pass to Ladybower

Cross the Dark Peak from Glossop on the A57, rising onto the moorland of Snake Pass before descending through the wooded valley towards Ladybower and Bamford. This point-to-point route is built around the changing upland landscape rather than a string of attraction stops. Plan a separate return journey if you are not continuing east.

Highlights along the way

Snake Pass moorland

The high A57 section crosses open Dark Peak country. Views depend on weather; use only lawful stopping places, not the road verge or blind bends.

Ladybower approach

The eastern descent leads towards the reservoir landscape. A waterside walk is a separate optional stop using designated parking.

Before you set off

Snake Pass has a history of landslips, works and weather closures. Check Derbyshire County Council’s current status before setting off; calculated geometry does not confirm the road is open. Follow temporary signals, restrictions and posted limits. Visibility and winter conditions can change rapidly.
