Cheddar Gorge and Mendip Loop

Leave Wells for a compact Mendip circuit, with the limestone walls of Cheddar Gorge as its centrepiece. Climb the B3135 through the gorge, then return across the higher countryside around Priddy. Keep time aside for a walk in the gorge or a village stop; the driving line is a road tour, not a cliff-top itinerary.

Highlights along the way

Cheddar Gorge

The limestone gorge is the principal highlight. Enjoy the road setting, then use suitable parking if you want to explore on foot.

Before you set off

Gorge bends can be tight and busy with pedestrians, cyclists and parked vehicles. Use designated parking rather than stopping in the carriageway. Attraction entry and parking arrangements are separate from this route.
