Glenshee and the Cairnwell Crossing

Leave Blairgowrie on the A93 and follow the valley north into Glenshee before crossing the Cairnwell towards Braemar. The route builds gradually from lower countryside into a high, open mountain-road setting. Make it a point-to-point day outing with an allowance for breaks rather than a short return trip.

Highlights along the way

Glenshee and Cairnwell

The A93 climbs into the mountain landscape at the Cairnwell crossing. Use authorised parking for any stop and treat walks or chairlift visits as separate activities.

Before you set off

This is a high and exposed crossing, with snow, fog and strong winds possible. Check Traffic Scotland and local weather before travelling. Resort facilities and opening are not assumed; keep junctions, access roads and passing areas clear.
